About book Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations On Life With John F. Kennedy (2011)

This was very hard to read. Extremely boring, choppy. So I listened to the CDs, being the actual recording of Jackie Kennedy and Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. I think it's the only way I would have actually finished the book without skipping sections. I found it somewhat amusing the background noise, Jackie's drinking glass & ice being poured, loud airplanes, and her exhaling her cigarettes in the last 1 or 2 CDs. And when John comes in and Arthur asks "where his dad is" he replies "Heaven" that is a heart-wrenching moment, it had only been about 4 months since Kennedy's death. For anyone interested in Kennedy-era history this is a terrific artifact... the family truly did allow for publication of Jackie's candid comments about both people and events... It is a very personal document (both in terms of Schlesinger's questions and remarks and Jackie's answers) but that is what makes it a fascinating read... If not familiar with the period some of the names/episodes are unknown and some of the material is repetitive but over all I found this very interesting and worthwhile reading.

I listened to the audio version of this and really enjoyed hearing her voice and her recollections.

So far, this narrative makes Jackie appear frail, weak, needy and narcissistic.
