About book Jacob's Daughter (2011)

I got this book as a free download and I didn't realize that it was an Amish book. It's the first book I've ever read about the Amish, actually. It was alright. It was really short though and kind of rushed. I never really got to the point where I actually cared about the characters. It wasn't terrible though. It was an interesting story (quite possibly because I know absolutely nothing about the Amish). Lizzie and her daughter Abby are on the run. Lizzie is taking her daughter to her hometown to keep her safe. Eddie, Abby's father, is dead and his friends might come after them for the money that Eddie owed them. Abby doesn't understand why they have to wear these strange outfits and she can't talk to her friends on her cell phone. What Lizzie has never told her daughter is that she is Amish and that they are heading to a world where electronics are forbidden and plain clothes are the norm.Jacob was in love with Lizzie when they were younger. Now he is a widow with a young son. When Abby shows up on his farm claiming he is her father he is beyond shocked. This pronouncement leads to a forced marriage to Lizzie and a mother for Caleb. I liked this story. The English element was not over done which I was worried about. Well written and easy to read. Good read.
