About book Israel Verstehen In 60 Tagen Oder Weniger (2000)
I was not sure what to think of this book, but when I saw it on the list of GSTBA potential nominees, I thought, "let's give it a try".....and I am happy I did. The author is on a trip to Israel, and while planning the trip had a very clear idea of what she thought of Israel as a nation, and also regarding the conflicts with Palestine. Once she arrives though, she finds that not everything is as clear cut as she expected. I got a real sense of the various opposing forces at work in that part of the world from a very human perspective; and I like that this slice of life novel is just that....a bit of life for you to examine and experience alongside the narrator. Sarah Glidden has provided a glimpse into the ordinary lives of Israelis with this graphic memoir. Though she is a Jewish American, she approached the issue of Israeli-Palestinian conflict from an entirely skeptical view of the Jews. Hence, those seeking to have the Israeli position justified will not find it here...simply because Glidden is able to be (mostly neutral) in discussing her Jewish heritage.
