I really didn't love the first half. I have a hard time with memoirs where the person doesn't really have anything to say. And I haven't really ever related to her humor, in other words I don't know that I find her that funny. I did like her observations about dating: men vs. boys. I liked her observations in general. I think if she had written this as strictly observations it would have been funny and good. I think Mindy Kaling is a super talented comedy writer and I love her show, The Mindy Project. That being said, this book desperately calls for an editor to slash about half of the content. There's actually a chapter called, "these are the narcissistic photos on my BlackBerry," which, believe it or not, is a chapter of selfies taken from her phone. A few chapters make compelling essays on dating, success, womanhood etc., but I was skimming the pages towards the latter half of the book.
