About book Inland (2014)

I Loved/Hated it... It was probably the most beautifully written book I've ever read with the descriptions of everything that made me feel like I was actually in the story, however it also went a bit over board in times and had me believing Rosenfield had a thesaurus at the ready for every word. The story line was intriguing, I picked it up because of the synopsis given on the inside cover, and went into thinking it was another mermaid book like all the others that seem to be emerging on the YA shelves these days. I was thoughorghly wrong in that assumption though, but still enjoyed the book. All the way up to the last few chapters I thought I had everything figured out and then BAM! I was totally wrong and happy about it. I liked that the ending was different from what I (and what I think a lot of people) would expect and I really liked getting my entire thought process flipped upside down because of truly great writing. BUT the ending was still a bit confusing and left me with a lot of questions that I want answers to. All in all, excellent book, excellent writing, I will definitely pick up Kat Rosenfield's other book "Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone". I really enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written in lyrical styling and the emotions were conveyed very well. My only issue with this book was that it was actually quite confusing at times mainly at the end, I don't want t give anything away but the ending and the epilogue are eyebrow raising. I'm all for reader interpretation but there are some parts where you are literally thinking "c'mon throw me a life raft here" do you sea what I did there? Anyway I did thoroughly enjoy this book apart from a few hiccups, I'm now dying to read Amelia Anne is dead and gone.
