So this is a Sanderson book which I really haven't heard much about before picking it up, although I did know that it was based around a video game. I am not a gamer and I have no intention of playing the game, but I wanted to give this a go anyway because of it being by Sanderson and I believed that it would not matter if it was based off of a game or not when it comes to his writing style, and I was right.I would not say it's necessary to have played the game, and I would say that if you do play them game surely you'll enjoy this book. I went into it knowing nothing about the story, world or magic, but I came away having enjoyed the short read and being surprised along the way at some of the twists and turns the story takes. It's a true Sanderson in style and very similar in some ways to his Cosmere books which I enjoyed a lot. Some of the powers (which I assume are from the video game) were very Sanderson-esque and therefore felt as though they belonged in the book, and overall it was a really fun and action-packed story.We follow the story of the Sacrifice, Siris, after he has defeated the God King (a supposedly immortal and un-defeatable ruler of the land) and the troubles that he faces along the way. I will say no more than that as it's a short story and I do not wish to spoil it for others, but it's a really fun romp with lots of cool magic and powers throughout. The one thing I felt it lacked was a little more explanation about 'why' all of these things were possible as many of Sanderson's other books do this better, but that may be due to the link with the games or possibly it will be revealed in book 2 (which I have picked up and am looking forward to reading soon).Overall I think it's a fun addition to the Sanderson collection and I'm quite happy to read anything which is by him. I would recommend it for a short, fun read, and I will read the next one soon! 4*s This was a decent read. Not super amazing, but I think it is important if you played the games. You should read this between playing Infinity Blade 1 and 2 if possible. Nice to know who Isa is and get more insight into Siris' character. Also nice to find out who Tel is. It contains ingenious explanations of why your player thinks he is a new child avenging his father every 20ish years, and why they fight 1 on 1. Also find out who the final boss was in the Infinity Blade 1, and how he get's his father's armor back each time. Also cool was the city he came from and the twist that everyone figured he would die and basically couldn't deal with it when he actually won. Really an amazing job of making a meaningful story out of a kinda convoluted video game.
