About book Increase In Learning: Spiritual Patterns For Obtaining Your Own Answers (Spiritual Patterns, #1) (2000)

This book is fabulous. I took a long time to read it, but I think I gained more from it that way. I love Elder Bednar's style of teaching and writing; it's concise and very well organized. The book has four chapters of original writings and then after each chapter there are "related readings" that include some of his conference talks or Ensign articles. I liked this format and was happy to reread some of my favorite talks from him. I get annoyed with some Deseret Book books that are just reprinted conference talks, since those are free online. This book helped me learn more about personal revelation, gaining gospel and secular knowledge, and ways to teach my children. Here are some favorite quotes:"Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man and he will increase in learning. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." -Proverbs 9:9-10"The Holy Ghost is the teacher who kindles within us an abiding love of and for learning." Elder Bednar does a beautiful job of teaching through this book. I love how this was written under the idea that there is no "one size fits all" or formula to spiritual learning. It is stated again and again that this book is filled with gospel doctrines that you should pattern your learning after but it is up to you to figure out how. Each chapter gives you ideas and then there are selected readings for each chapter that support the content and are given for you to practice learning on.
