This was my first book by this author and I truly like her writing which is why I finished it, but this was not a fave. I like Jack and Emmaline a lot, but sadly they weren't together in the book hardly at all. It felt like two huge chunks of the book were Emmaline's backstory with Kevin (frustrating idiot) and Jack with Hadley (a nightmare I wanted to punch in the face. Repeatedly.) When Jack and Em were together, I loved it. They were sarcastic and snarky and I like that. But they were rarely together. And I did have a few times where I wanted to punch Jack-being a nice guy is one thing. Being a doormat to Hadley made me want to tell Em to turn and run. So on the whole, I ended up merely frustrated while reading. However, in my opinion, that means the writing is very good because it made me feel. Not necessarily what I wanted to feel but feel just the same. It was written well so I cared. I got sucked in. But instead of being wrapped up in Jack and Em's story, I just wanted them to leave town and all the mess behind them. And throttle all secondary characters. This author is hit or miss for me and this Vogel fell somewhere in the middle. As usual, our heroine gets humiliated but soon settles back to being a sensible, caring person. The hero was nice; that's about all the impression he made on me. There were some serious issues brought up that were too quickly resolved. People who've read the series will enjoy revisiting, but newcomers might get a bit lost. The ending was also abrupt, leaving loose ends all over the place.

This totally snuck past me- was funny, and really touching.

Good, quick read. She wrapped it up a little fast.
