This was a fast paced quick read. I really enjoyed the unique scenery (opposed to the books I typically read) and liked that there wasn't a lot of over drawn out descriptions of the magnificent Grand Canyon. I liked the adventure feel of the book and the variety of characters that were along for the ride. I was eager to go down river and learn more about each person and their story (including the guides) as to what brought them there and the ways they all managed to find some peace or resolution/life course correction. I wish the author had spent more time delving further into each person's personal story. I found Evelyn to be the most interesting (though the oddest) of the bunch and always wanted to know more about her. We were given just enough of each person to understand their personalities and a little bit of their backgrounds. However, I wish this didn't become all about Amy. It's a shame the book ended the way that it did because it seemed thrown together and unlikely. I understand the want for some wild twist to make the book memorable, but to me that should have happened on the river and not turn into a teen special. Regardless it was an enjoyable book and I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it. I loved this book. I loved everything about this book. I loved the adventure (since it is something that completely terrifies me and I would never be able to do). I loved the way that strangers became family after 14 days. I loved that damn dog. I loved the unexpected twist with Amy that made me drop my jaw. I want to visit the Grand Canyon now...on solid ground...to see if it too can change my life.
