I stopped reading after harsh walks in on Carson and nikodemius doing it until then I was continuing because i wanted to finish this book I don't like not finishing books but then that scene weirded me out and made me realize that this book includes a menage a trois which isn't what I read. The book should say it's,an erotica or something I hadn't read the reviews before I stopped so I had no clue. At the start I felt the character felt really numb but I was attributing that fact to her having migraines and dying so I don't know if that continues on later in book. Also from what I read homogenous didn't seem like the guy who was going to be okay with Carson being with someone else but to find that later on it is IS -_- and him having control over her is also creepy, to quote from the book he says "you'll be my creature afterwards" and that's not weird at all even if it does to keep her alive the fact he has literally control over her actions didn't sit well with me. But to each it's own, every reader has a different take and opinion about the book they read and some people have really liked it so if anyone wanted to try it they should give a try. Back in 2000 and something I started my ebook reading journey on my then smartphone, an HTC wildfire. A cute, capable phone with a rather smallish screen. Nevertheless, I loved it and the whole world of ebooks that had opened up to me. I distinctly remember my first reads being a forgettable psycological self help tome, a couple of Wayne Dyer books, the first three Kresley Cole Immortals after dark books and the first two books in this series. From then I was totally hooked on the paranormal. Thank you Carolyn and Kresley because as I subsequently discovered, all paranormal is not created equal and as a then newbie, I was in very good hands indeed. I love this series enough to do a re-read and I love it even more the second time around. The characters are cool, funny, imperfect and absolutely engaging. The world of Fiends and Mages is really well done and this series just gets better and better. In this starter, Nikodemus and Carson are a kickass couple. It was interesting to watch the development of the heroine from a scared of her own shadow, unaware, rather submissive personality to a really evolved person. That was a toughie as I am not drawn to the type of heroine Carson was at the start but staying with it provided a great payoff. I hope we continue to see her development and that of their relationship during the rest of the series.
