About book İçimdeki Psikopat (2000)

Feeling rather introspective after this book. While the author does seem to end the book with sort-of giving himself permission to continue with his bad behaviour because of the biological basis, there is quite a lot of information in the book itself. And it's quite obvious that introspection is quite a painful process for the author.I myself, while not a psychopath or sociopath (I'm pretty sure), or having any brain scans that I can point to, know that I have a somewhat 'abnormal' brain. I'm a lot of 'a' words: atheist, but also asexual and aromantic. My memory is terrible and I have difficulty with some emotions, especially love, especially romantic love which I'm not sure I can actually feel that way that other people feel. I've also had major depression a bunch of times in my life so far. This book has made me super curious what a neuroscientist would make of my brain. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought. I thought it was going to be about the mind of a psychopath, not the ramblings of some dude who is severely narcissistic and just blah. Honestly, I couldn't put it down, but that was only because I was waiting for the inner thoughts and experiences of a psychopath. But I didn't get that :( It's not that difficult to see that this "book" is just a really long, drawn out, repetitive essay. Or a textbook. Whichever you prefer. Although Jim lacked something in his book, I did agree with a lot of the things he said about the difference between psychopath and sociopath and that there really isn't a difference at all. Overall it wasn't the worst thing I've read.

Não pensava se tratar de uma biografia, mas tirando o entusiasmo técnico, o livro é bom.
