About book Imaginary Jesus (2010)

I found Imaginary Jesus by Matt Mikalatos to be a cross between Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller and The Shack by William Young. If you liked either one of them, I think you'll like this. Matt took me on a journey. A journey into my past, my present and pointed me toward my future. This book is written those of us who have been part of the Christian faith for awhile and may not even realize we've replaced the Real Jesus for an Imaginary One. Amongst the humorous and the outrageous words (the book starts with Chapter Zero - how cool is that?), I began to suspect that at times I too have had an Imaginary Jesus hanging around.I recommend this book to those who have a slight niggling doubt about the Jesus they follow, or the Jesus they see others following. Maybe he's more than a guy in a robe, sash and sandals. Maybe it's time to look outside the box. I loved this book. I have been a Christian all my life, and in the last year have been actually trying to figure out what that really means. This book took me on an adventure as Matt tried to figure out who the real Jesus is. I know that I'm in the beginning stages of that search but this book helped me to think about things that I hadn't thought too much about and reinforced some of my favorite things from the New Testament. I enjoyed Matt's humor, I didn't think a book about finding Jesus would have so many quirky moments to it, but on the cover it did say something along the lines of "Think Monty Python meets C.S. Lewis...." (Relevant Magazine) Now I'm not too familiar with C.S. Lewis yet but I am with Monty Python and there is a good bit of humor throughout. I was particularly touched by the reason that he had been trying to figure out Jesus more, since my husband and I had suffered a miscarriage a few years ago and it was hard for us. But reading this helped me to understand a little better that Jesus is always there for me, even if I don't always think so.

Do You like book Imaginary Jesus (2010)?

There was a lot that could have been edited out - very repetitive. It was a fast read.

I liked this book, pretty unique. Comical and entertaining but just barely for me.

Mostly strange, but a few good thinking points. A quick read.

Hated it. SO predictable and cheesy.
