About book I'm Over All That And Other Confessions (2011)
I've been a big fan of Shirley MacLaine for years. To watch her dance is a joy. Her smile makes everyone happy, and she paid her own way, which is a big plus in my book. I've read her daughter's book and not much to say more about that, except, most families have problems. And there's always two sides to it and any of us don't know the whole story. My wish is that they both can forgive each other and get past all the "past". This book, I'm Over All That and other confessions is s good read. It's a fast read and gets to the points of what she is telling you. It was very enjoyable. I liked hearing about the days of Dino and Frank and all the great actors. And I agree with her that it's like Hollywood has been gutted of great actors and movies. Not much great comes out of Hollywood anymore. I like that she chose to go "green", self reliant and that's something that I would love to do. I think Ms. MacLaine is enjoying her self still, and that's good. I also like that she's a student still. She knows a lot, but she is learning all the time. I've read several of her books over the years and they have helped me. Out On A Limb answered questions that I'd had for years and even if you don't believe in what she believes, she's a great teacher and tells it as it is. The Camino was a great read. And I've read Don't fall Off The Mountain and Dancing In The Light. Why do I read her books? I don't read other peoples books because they are nasty usually. Mud slinging stuff that I can't do anything about. They can't seem to deal with their stuff, so they fling their mud on everyone else. I've read a few autobiographies that have been fun. What puts Shirley MacLaine's books out there for me is that she has something to say, something to teach us. It's not all about me me me. Thank you Ms. MacLaine for another good book. Keep em comin! Shirley is a brave, thoughtful and secure woman who whole heartedly believes all that she says. some of what she writes and thinks is actually believable and makes sense. I like the premise of the book as she looks back on her life (this current one) and talks about why she is "over" or not "over" people, places, things and current events. But some of the esoteric thoughts and beliefs make me wonder how a sane person (which she most assuredly is) can harbor some out of the out of the box thinking she does. She has led a fascinating life and has a lifetime of experiences to share if you can suspend your own belief structures and tune into hers.
