About book I'm Here (2011)

"I'm here" is a touching book about a little boy with Autism who is alone on a playground while other children play happily together in the distance. The wind blows a piece a paper that he folds into an airplane and allows his imagination to come to life in his own mind. What makes this book so endearing is the way in which the author weaves the tale together with simple text and illustrations. The reader is placed into the mind of a child with Autism or in general a child who has been outcasted by his peers. Every child struggles with fitting in at one time or another and this book captures this dilemma and frames it in away that speaks to your soul. This book could be used as a perceptual tool into the experience of a child with special needs or as a lesson plan on building friendships with other children regardless of their individual differences. This book is a lovely book about a student who finds comfort in doing their own thing. The student is okay with not being with the other students and finds a fascination with the wind and leaves and the paper that "finds" him. I read reviews and they mentioned autism which I can I understand in this book. Although some people have pinpointed it, I believe that this book shows that you can be yourself and that's okay. This book also helps people explore their own imagination. Allow your imagination to soar at some points through out the day because it allows you to free your inner thought. It makes you stand out from other people.
