Lindqvist, universally described as either “Sweden’s Stephen King” or “the heir apparent to Stephen King,” has already covered vampire and zombie ground and now writes this bizarre ghost story which may or may not fit into H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulu mythos quite snuggly… an atmospheric, slow-building thriller that has the balls to make the ocean itself the antagonist and feature prominently two ’80s hipster ghosts who ride a moped and converse only in Smiths lyrics. Yeah. “To other gods we pray: save us from the sea.” More like save me ever getting anything done from this guy writing more page-turners like this one… Bought this book with zero expectations and got a gem! This guy can tell a story. Besides Stephen King, I don't normally delve into the horror genre, and didn't really know that this book fit in it when I picked it up. Just started reading it and was taken away by Lindqvist's ability to captivate me with his storytelling. Will you be scared reading this book? A bit, yeah. Will you be entranced by the storytelling? Absolutely? The only weak part about the story that I could find was the ending. While not bad, it did seem to kind of stop on a dime, but I mean, where DO you stop a story like this one? It's one of those books that takes you from the first few pages on to the very last page and leaves you wanting more, in a good way. The prose is top notch for the horror genre, and it is completely understandable why they are calling Lindqvist Sweeden's Stephen King. Totally worthy of the label.
Do You like book Il Porto Degli Spiriti (2008)?
don't get your hopes up...Stephen king he is not.

Parts were good. Longer parts were very boring.
