Pero mientras buscamos el ant��doto o la medicina para curarnos, lo nuevo, aquello que s��lo se puede encontrar en lo ignoto, hay que seguir transitando por el sexo, los libros y los viajes, aun a sabiendas de que nos llevan al abismo, que es, casualmente, el ��nico sitio donde uno puede encontrar el ant��doto. Roberto Bolaño sin dudas me dejó con ganas de más, de conocer su punto de vista y las críticas literarias que con tanta picardía redacta...el libro comienza con Jim un relato que lees sin pena ni gloria, no sé si es porque soy muy básica o no supe apreciar lo que el autor me quería transmitir y si es que quería! XDluego llegó "El gaucho insufrible" AJJJ! es que me encantó, como un abogado (con toda su pomposidad) llega a cuidar a sus dos hijos tras la muerte de su esposa, tener una buena relación con sus empleados y por la crisis política decide vivir en la pampa de la Argentina... bueno hasta ahí llego (puedo spoilear) shhh...el tercer cuento es "Pepe el tira" ay! que risa! como nos guía hacia las profundidades de las alcantarillas y una rata resuelve atroces crímenes. Todo muy metafórico, está genial."El viaje de Álvaro Rousselot" está muy bien, me encantaría ir a Francia algún día.Y aquí llega el momento crítico CHAN CHAN! "Dos cuentos católicos" con solo escribirlos me da sueño, para mí fue muy pero MUY fome, después de esa crisis llega Literatura más enfermedad igual enfermedad y Cthulhu que sin lugar a dudas fue lo mejor!!!! la lectura es recomendable, pero cuando ya uno es más maduro y puede apreciar la escritura del autor hasta criticarla. BUEN DÍA!!! :D

In these 5 stories (and 2 essays), Bolano shows us why he is a brilliant master of the unpredictable and one of the few important writers that MUST be read. Reading the stories one is inundated with weird, wonderful, and savage themes...Bolano serving as the magician pulling out insane, bloodthirsty rabbits out of his spooky hat. All these astonishing stories show unbelievable control in their explosiveness, daring themes, and unpredictability. Bolano is brilliant at guiding this crazy amount of tension, shaping it, controlling it, only to set it free and have everything go haywire when he feels it's time. I read this collection just on the heels of George Saunders' "Tenth of December" omnibus, and the difference in skill and ability to control a narrative between these two writers is staggering. Although Saunders is really interesting thematically, his execution falls short with me. I'll take Bolano on my team, thanks.

4 stars but "really liked it" is the wrong accompanying phrase. "Really attracted to it" or "really set on edge by it" more like it. As a coherent collection (as others have said) maybe just 3 stars, but the writing is so brilliant and...electric that I couldn't justify under a 4. Recommended only for those with a taste for "black comedy" and those that don't mind a "looming and ineffable sense of doom". I, for one, will be back for more Bolaño -- my appetite is whetted -- but only after a few less stressful reads in between.
