I would have probably liked this book better if not for one, big, glaring issue: PANDAS ARE NOT BEARS!I mean, okay, I get it. We've called them bears for a long time, because of a vague physical resemblance. But they're part of the raccoon family. And it drives me crazy that authors are teaching kids bad science! I did like the illustrations. Those were actually quite beautiful--especially the moon bear. Aside from the glaring taxonomy error, the text was a little insipid. Nice, cute, whatever... but lacking in any real character. This is a nice non-fiction book for early readers with simple rhyming text and illustrations of the various types of bears. The end of the book includes a few interesting facts about each of the bears that might increase curiosity to read more about this animal. References at the end share websites to visit for more information. (A note: a previous review states that pandas are not bears. I was interested in checking that out and three websites confirm that they are bears including the Smithsonian National Zoological Society.)
