As the 5th Wherlocke story, I’m well acquainted with the Wherelocke’s and their special abilities. It was a treat to come back to this world again. Lady Olympia Wherlocke, has the gift of foresight, she is also a widow so she has a bit more freedom in society. She is truly kind, sweet and a beautiful soul and can’t help but attempt to help Lady Agatha Mallam out of a bad situation. She sees the good in Lord Brant Mallam from the very beginning,After dealing with the fallout of his mother’s evil plots, Lord Bryant Mallam has been drowning his sorrows and burying his head in the sand with women and booze. Even though he’s alienated most of society with his debauchery, he can’t ignore the pleas of his sister and is instantly attracted to Lady Olympia even if he attempts to fight the attraction.Watching these two dance around each other and skate what society and the ton would find acceptable was a great treat for me. I enjoy the dance of falling in love and when they do it’s all the sweeter because they fought for their love and each other. Ms. Howell, is a favorite author of mine for a reason, and this story embodies why I love her. This is a story with love, courage, heart and just a touch of whimsy. Overall I loved this newest Wherlocke story and I can only hope that there are more crazy Wherlockes waiting in the wings for their story to be told, because I have not gotten enough of this series! I finally got to this book by one of my favorite authors. This is Hannah Howell’s 5th installment in “The Wherlockes” historical paranormal romance series and it's the romantic tale of Lady Olympia Wherlocke, the Baroness of Myrtledowns, and Brant Mallam, Earl of Fieldgate.Fieldgate’s sister arrives on Olympia’s doorstep crying and desperate and, even though the young girl’s brother is a well-known, drunken debaucher, Olympia promises to contact him and to help Lady Agatha Mallam. Seems the girl’s mother has sold her to a diseased-ridden old lech who is old enough to be Agatha’s grandfather. Olympia goes to Fieldgate’s residence, beats his butler to unconsciousness when he refuses to allow her entrance, and finds Fieldgate sprawled on his drawing room couch drunk. The earl sobers to discover Olympia talking to a young boy, he learns the boy, Thomas, is his half-brother, a by-blow of his father, he follows Olympia and finds his butler unconscious on the floor and Olympia reprimanding his assistant cook for striking Thomas. There are more, worse dangers for them to face and solve, secrets to be revealed, and love to be encountered. While I really loved reading her Highlander series, I discovered the interactions between Olympia and Brant are as much fun as her earlier series and this series carries the Howell style I have come to expect. What I like about this series, besides the wonderful banter and the close family bonds of the Wherlockes-Vaughns, is the way Howell develops her characters and permits us to see their growth. That is especially true with Fieldgate, who feels he is worthless and unable to protect those he loves and he has to face the fact that he loves the woman his mother refused to permit him to marry before Olympia will marry him.Hannah Howell is one of my favorite and go-to historical romance authors and I recommend this book (this series) to you if you like historical romance with a twist of the paranormal.
