About book I'd Like To Apologize To Every Teacher I Ever Had: My Year As A Rookie Teacher At Northeast High (2012)
Great Book! Danza does an excellent job recapping the events that occurred at Northeast High during the time he spent teaching there. Many candid stories and heart-wrenching realizations are included. Working with inner city students, he realized how difficult the teaching career is, and how much respect teachers deserve. He ends with the starfish story, which perfectly summarizes his year spent at Northeast and how his students lives' and emotions would stay with him forever. As a former teacher, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although Tony Danza's year of teaching was initiated as fodder for reality TV, he did manage to have a somewhat typical experience. Thankfully, his heart was in the right place and he finished the year even though the production was canceled mid-way. He is honest about the ways his experience was not typical of teachers in general, but he made a difference in the lives of the students he had, which really summarizes what makes teaching worthwhile. I also appreciated the author's realizations about the critical state of education in our country, symptomatic of which is the devaluation the general public seems to have regarding educators, among other things. Iapplaud Tony Danza and this book.
