About book I Never Promised You A Goodie Bag: A Memoir Of A Life Through Events--the Ones You Plan And The Ones You Don't (2012)
Really enjoyed this book. True story of a young woman's brutal attack and how she moves forward to recover from this awful thing. To learn to just walk down the street again without being terrified, never mind trusting anyone ever again, well, Jennifer Gilbert was tested in this way. Even though reading of tragedy is never good, to read of someone coming out the other side of it is always uplifting. Jennifer Gilbert is a driven, successful, and ambitous woman - she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. Her hard-charging ways are a thin veneer for a brutal attack after college, though. In this book, she finally peels back the layers and confronts her issues. Gilbert is so easy to identify with - she's fun, outgoing, and puts it all out there. There was so much clarity as she reflected over her life in this book. And her strength is just amazing. I loved reading about the events she's organized and am so happy she's ended up in such a great place.
