This book is hilarious! Some comedians have incredible social and cultural insight and you can put Cross near the top of that list. His commentary is biting and not for the meek, uber religious or humorless masses. I am surprised and how many people did not love this book, I think they are easily offended and clearly have no clue who Cross really is. If more people spoke their minds in the way that he does about how messed up our society really is, we might just get down to fixing some of the problems we have. Recommended for those with a dark, sarcastic sense of humor, atheists, and those who don't mind being called an a-hole. This is available online so take a shot if you need to laugh and aren't overly sensitive. I saw David Cross a bunch of times when I lived in New York, and he was always a bit acerbic, angry, and mean-spirited, and not particularly laugh-out-loud funny, but he was never, ever boring. And I love that he will go places that no body else will touch. I think at one point he made a joke out of pedophilia. So there's that. This was much better than I expected. He is clever, entertaining, and the writing is good. His "Cigar Stories" and Jim Belushi obsession were particularly enrapturing.And he has some pretty good reasons to drink, that's for sure.
