Got this on my kindle. A touching devotion to a dog named Humphrey. this one starts off with the dog dying at the beginning of the book. very sad really Humphrey is dropped off to be taken care of a pet care type center and he dies suddenly while there. a part of this book is trying to find out what happened, how guilty and heartbroken his owner was. Now he shared his life with this terrific dog. a nice touching homage to the dog he loved. this a part sad and even funny at times describing his life with Humphrey. a pretty nice read. I picked this book out to read because we recently lost our own dog "Molly" who died at 16 years old. We miss our girl a lot. Last week we adopted a dog at the local shelter. A Jack russell, chihuahua mix. we named "Roxie" I had a lot in common with Mark Asher. Losing a pet has got to be one of the most difficult things in the world. Animal people understand; but even they are very consoling for a day or two and then they go on with their daily lives not realizing the huge hole that is left in yours. It was interesting to read Mark's journey that was very parallel to my own. I completely identified with all of his emotions, the pain, the searching for why, people advising what he needed to do next. I am also a photographer like he is. And even work with a rescue and work in the shelter like he did before I knew he had. So I identified with him in numerous ways including his working with a rescue to help deal with his own loss. I wouldn't say I learned anything from the book but I definitely identified with the sentiments of it. *** SPOILER ALERT ****** SPOILER ALERT ***He would've gotten an additional star if he had actually followed through to the point that he finally got his next pet.
