This 2008 picture book is a powerful reminder of the importance of taking the time to help others in need. A small boy, Will, is the only one on the busy street that notices an injured bird on the sidewalk. Although the book has few words, its' message is powerful. This is a story that could be used in all grade levels to foster great discussions on making decisions based on the needs of others. One thing I really like about this book is that it is short, sweet, and to the point. Although this story is extremely short, it can be used in a variety of ways in a classroom. It sends a strong message that could be tied into a lesson on doing good deeds, and it's clear and concise storyline could be used to teach a lesson on beginning, middle and end. It would also be a great book for a classroom with ELLs because the pictures tell the story almost better than the words do.
