About book How To Build A Girl (2014)

I have never been an overweight British girl and I haven't heard of most of the bands mentioned in this novel, but some writers have the gift of taking the specific and personal and making it universal. Caitlyn Moran has that gift and I completely empathized with Johanna - excuse me, Dolly's - quest to mold her future by rebuilding herself. Because in another time, place and gender I did the exact same thing. And so did you. A heartbreaking, witty, clever coming of age taleThat as soon as I picked it up I couldn't put the book down. (Doors were a problem) the book held me in it's grip that much. It's frank and never boring even if at times I missed some of the references. It's an exciting page turner where you worry and wonder what's next in a happy way.I definitely recommend it especially for women and girls as chapter 24 is one of the most inspiring things I have ever read and really made a mark on me. It's aimed at women but I believe most would find he chapter mesmerizing and personal. The writer has such a strong yet fun way with words. That even in despair she manages to make the tale and situations hilarious It's a coming of age novel about a girl in England who becomes a rock critic and her crazy adventures. It's heartwarming, sad and empowering and hilarious. It's a book where you wish the protagonist was your best friend she is so much fun and you experience all these emotional breakthroughs and breakdowns with her and rarely does she feel sorry for herself.
