About book House Of Mystery: Room And Boredom (2008)
This first volume was pretty freaking fun!I'm a big fan of short stories, and each issue has the main story arc with a short independent story nestled within it.A story within a story.So very much my cup of tea!The overall plot line of some strangers trapped together in the House Of Mystery is interesting enough. I get a big kick outta the crowd scenes in the bar. There is always something really witty going on and about. So far it looks like its going to be a fun ride piecing together what is happening and watching the roles and personalities of each of the characters play out; not even mentioning what, exactly, is keeping them prisoner in The House.The real cherry on top for me, however, are the short stories. In this volume I suppose my favorite was Jordan's story. Totally cracked me up! The other stories were a lot of fun as well, but Jordan's took the gold.Really happy I stumbled across these books. They are kinda exactly what I am in the mood for these days. Intriguing. This is volume one so we mostly just get characters and the setting up of the premise. This takes the bare bones of the old House of Mystery anthology series, along with concepts developed by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman, and remixes the whole thing for a 21st century take on a classic title. We have the house. We have stories. We even have (briefly) Cain and Abel. But make no mistake: this is not your father's House of Mystery. It shows promise and I'm interested to see where this is all going.

Not a bad series but not nearly as good as Sandman or Lucifer. or even Fables.
