Mattie Breen and her mother have moved around a lot. This may be the last time they move because Mattie and her mother have a heart to heart about staying with Uncle Potluck. Mattie is extremely insecure and never knows what to say because she is afraid she will sound stupid or babyish. During the summer she keeps notes of all the procedures and rules of being a Janitor alongside her Uncle Potluck. She hopes that once school starts she will be able to avoid recess and lunch by spending her breaks with her Uncle Potluck. Urban did a great job of showing how insecurity and shyness feels in the first person perspective. I can relate to her awkwardness because of still experiencing some shyness in some situations. This book would be useful in a classroom if you have some children who are shy. Other secure children may become frustrated by her self-doubt; my solution would use this book for reading groups. Grouping up children who show some self-doubt and have them read this book while other groups read different books. I previously read the Linda Urban’s “A Crooked Kind of Perfect” and enjoy reading it. when i searching through the books, I accidentally see the book with kind of odd cover page :) . when i check it out, I knew, I liked this Authors book. Hound Dog True, Guys! I read this book in that evening itself :) , And story was delightful. The book is all about “small acts of courage”, and the people.The environment of the Linda Urban’s Story(This) is kind of new to everyone,i think. Story goes along with Mattie, main character and the Uncle Potluck(her uncle) who is the school custodian .Hound DOG true, you can really enjoy this book! Friendship Small act of courage colorful people and Custodial wisdom, yap! all of them are there :) .
