About book Hotel Pens (2012)

The book title grabbed my interest right from the beginning. I used to “collect” pens once upon a time. The use of that “habit” in this story was fascinating as both an analogy, and as a way to introduce the characters. Not only did it move the story along in an interesting way, it gave me something to think about. A most interesting experience. The first few chapters I was a bit lost. In Chapter Four the author helped me out. “So I don’t confuse things too much, this is a flashback.” Whew! I thought I was losing it. Things weren’t making any sense or flowing well at all. But now that I knew we were doing a flashback, well actually several, I took a deep breath and pushed on. Once I realized what was going on, I thought the author was rather genius at using this device to not only introduce Joe’s back story, but to also illustrate Joe’s state of mind. Confused. Disoriented. Unsettled. And I was right there with him. What a way to become part of the book. When the flashbacks were over and the story returned to the present, I became completely charmed. I was inside Joe’s head so far, that is was me running around New York looking at things in a whole new way. I loved it, and I have never been to New York. Now, I would love to go! I loved Claude! And I have to thank the author for NOT writing the French accent. Mr. Knight told me Claude had an accent, and that was enough for me to hear it. I did not have to suffer through trying to read it. I could concentrate on Claude’s charm, thoughtfulness, and romantic nature. *sigh* This was a wonderful little read. Short, but not missing anything. The Characters were well developed and likable. The story was interesting and well written. The romance was sweet and hot. *sigh* The ending was satisfying. A wonderful bedtime read. I was provided a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. Sweet story, perfect length for a beach read or a cold winter day in front of a fireplace. Joe is a travel writer who has returned to New York to write a story about 5 ways to rediscover NY. He left six months ago after breaking up with the man who he thought he'd spend his life with. When he returns, since he's sold his apartment, he checks into a hotel-- another in a long line of hotels in his life and he meets a gorgeous and sexy Frenchman, Claude, in the lobby. When he notices Claude pocketing the hotel pen he's used to sign a receipt, he pockets the pen that he has used as well, but makes sure that Claude sees him do it. Seems he's not the only one with a hotel pen collection. This begins a two day adventure in which Claude not only helps him rediscover New York, but also himself. Nice story premise, sweet and sexy execution.
