a decent 4 star rating, I loved the 2 MC's and the whole set-up. It reminded me of Clean Slate and First Blood so I backed this up with a re-read of CS and FB.while I did like the MC's and the overall story, some things bugged me. To my feeling there was too big a difference between writing styles. The night-off-undercover felt like I was reading a different book. There were a few errors with the names though, Ridley & Saeed, Ridley & Mahir.. nope. Halfway through - oh wow.And now it's done and I'm sorry. I wanted to carry on reading and see more undercover edginess and occasional stolen tender moments slotted into a mind blowing plot. But that tells you more about me than the book.Mahir/Saeed - two linked but separate characters - are stupendous. I loved the way one eased into the other and Mahir's occasional moments of confusion as he found himself reacting as Saeed under Mahir circumstances. Aleks told me that everyone loved Ridley and yes, he's a very complex and compelling character. One of the joys of the book was to see the cracks in that case hardened carapace appear and something a little more vulnerable peep out. As a couple they were terrific, complementary, and I enjoyed seeing their interactions develop into a loving relationship.The plot is very satisfying - drug cartels and pimping initially but with something even grimier seething away under the surface. I have HUGE respect for the authors in that they didn't go down the obvious route with this but let our imaginations do the work.I've read several co-written books where the two author voices are so different that they leap off the page and the story appears to have 4 protagonists instead of two. Not so here. At no time was I certain who had written which bit - two minds working as one. Would I read another Mahir/Ridley outing? In a minute, but this book stands alone very well, with all immediate ends tied up and a very satisfying conclusion. However there ARE some bits and pieces that I'm left wondering about and I have high hopes that they might be addressed in future, if the authors can add another task to their work load.
