About book Hope (1999)

HOPE was by far my favorite book in the series. When Hope Kallahan leaves Michigan to meet the man she has agreed to married, she begins an adventure the likes of which she could've never imagined. When her stage is robbed, she is kidnapped and presumed to be the daughter of a senator. Her bumbling captures refuse to believe her when she tries to identify herself and she soon realizes she is dealing with a hopeless band of misfits. Though "Grunt" seems to be the only sane one in the bunch, he too tries her patience as she schemes to escape and get word to her betrothed that she is on her way. When Hope falls ill and is carried away by "Grunt" her suspicions are confirmed. "Grunt" is non other than Dan Sullivan, a government agent that has infiltrated the hapless gang that keep stealing government payrolls. As he tries to get Hope to Medford, they meet obstacle after obstacle. When weeks turn into months, a bond forms between them that neither of them is willing to admit to. Hope feels a responsibility to the man she has agreed to married even though she has never met him, and Dan feels it is his duty to see Hope safely to her destination. I loved this story. While June and Faith were enjoyable, this one was captivating. Although the list of mishaps that befall Hope and Dan seems a bit outrageous, you are willing to put those feelings aside and enjoy the bond that begins to grow between these two people. A great book with great characters.

Hope Kallahan, like her sisters, is leaving the comfort of home to become a mail-order bride. Her father, who was a pastor, has passed away, and the sisters don't want to be a burden on their aunt. Since there are no eligible men in her hometown, the sisters decide answering ads for mail-order brides is the only choice they have. While Hope is traveling, her stage is robbed and she is kidnapped. The outlaws think they have a senator's daughter, and Hope worries what will happen to her if they find out they've got the wrong girl. Three of her captors are bumbling idiots, but the fourth seems different somehow. What Hope doesn't know is he's really a government agent who infiltrated the gang. What comes next is a journey of one adventure after another. Hope's faith is tested from the beginning. Will she be able to get by on her father's faith, or will she learn a faith that is all her own? Will she ever make it to her fiance? This is the third book in the Brides of the West series, and I loved it as much as the first two. Each of the books has a wonderful spiritual lesson for the characters to learn as well as the readers. I highly recommend this series!

Do You like book Hope (1999)?

I am really enjoying this Christian historical romancesFrom The Library Journal:"Want to hear God laugh? Tell him what you got planned for your life." Those words ring in 1870s federal agent Dan Sullivan's ears as he shelves his retirement to infiltrate a band of payroll thieves. He didn't expect to meet stubborn mail-order bride Hope Kallahan, who gets kidnapped by the gang and held for ransom, or that she would be a veritable magnet for danger. As she intimidates hardened criminals into cleaning house and talks Dan into rescuing her, Dan believes God had a reason for throwing her in his path. A Western romp full of hilarity and good, old-fashioned fun.

This is supposed to be a funny western romance. I read a couple of funny lines, but that's pretty much the end of comedy. Hope constantly goes back & forth from being brave to scared, she's a pastor's daughter, but doesn't believe God is watching over her, constantly doubting, yet praying. I wished she's make up her mind! Hope did show a little spunk when kidnapped, then showed humor for the first time after staying in a house 2 nights with a pig, wishing she could eat some poke greens with ham hocks.. But this book is full of contradictions. when Hope & Dan meet farmers Harriet & Luther, Harriet says their family feud with Luther's brother started over a calf being stolen. but in next paragraph she says feud started because she married Luther, not his brother who was sweet on her. Hope just serms so wishy washy, with a little spunk every now & then. I will say, though, some of the people they meet are interesting. I enjoyed their visit with Letty, an elderly widow who had cut her leg while chopping wood. And I did have a soft spot for Frog, one of the gangsters. You'll know why if you read the book. The groom to be John was a little interesting, but Veda, the woman who made yucky chicken casserole, was better. A little repetitious about John & Veda until the end. If you don't require a book with any thought, this is the book for you!

I really enjoyed this book. It was full of humor, twists and turns, and lots of adventure and faith. The only thing about it I didn't care for was toward the end, Hope (thinking to herself) said that when it came to love, one had to follow one's heart. Her only correction to that was that in her case she couldn't as she was promised to one man and in love with another. Jeremiah 17:9 states that "“The heart is deceitful above all things,And desperately wicked;Who can know it?"other than that, I truly enjoyed this book and hope to read more books by Lori Copeland! :)
