About book Hockey Dreams: Memories Of A Man Who Couldn't Play (1997)
This book is great, for the most part. However, I think that it felt just a little bit too... cynical? David Adams Richards is clearly an incredible writer, but I got the impression that he was a little bit "ranty" at times. The ending was fantastic. Also: "In reality in Canada, there are two kinds of hockey fans - Montreal fans, and everyone else. The Montreal fan is, by and large, gracious, kind and magnanimous in victory. There is no real dispute about this. The other fan, everyone else, is a peculiar kind of individual - vindictive, mean and spiteful." I almost put down the book when I read this (with only 25 or so pages left!), because in my experience Montreal fans are the most spiteful of all. HANDS DOWN. There is no real dispute in that. Still a good book though.
