Meltzer's book presents ten great historical mysteries and the conspiracy theories associated with them. It is an enjoyable book to browse and includes numerous illustrations and documentation. As one would expect, few of the mysteries are resolved but enough evidence is presented to make the reader wonder about Area 51, UFOs, the fate of John Wilkes Booth and, above all, the facts surrounding the Kennedy Assassination. Despite the frustration created by the apparent insolubility of these events, it is fun to explore them. This a great book for the reluctant reader or historian. It really sparks an interest in history and frankly, if history wasn't taught in such a "this is the way it was" dry sense, more people would be interested! I love how this presents the "facts", the various view points, and the documentation. While I am no lover of inserts into a book, I think for many kids this might add to intrigue of the book. As a tutor, this will be added to my arsenal of books to get a reluctant reader to have the interest to not only struggle through text but discover how reading can act as a path to facinating things. Highly recommended!
