Normally I love Emma Holly books. Pester coworkers into reading them. This one was alright, it just wasn't as good as I have come to expect from Emma Holly. She has always delivered excellent story, depth of character & incredibly hot sex. This book fell a little flat on all three for me.Ari had very little character depth to me. I had no sense of her other than she was a happy pushover. HEA, but not recommended as anything but filler. After reading Hidden Crimes and quite enjoying the mix of paranormal contemporary romance and erotica (when Holly is good, she's really good) I realized I had gotten this book as a freebie at ARe at some point and started reading the series from the beginning. This shows the story of Ari, whom we didn't see that much of in the third book and Adam, the head of the werewolf police force. Ari, having grown up outside and being used since she developed her powers has been on the run from the guy who had been using her on the one hand and is on the other hand trying to save her only two friends who have turned into hostages for the guy. She's now using her powers to gun for him and that sort of vigilantism brings her up on the radar of Adam - who isn't nearly as suave as Nick was - but a clear alpha scenting his mate and reacting to that. The crime/suspense side of the story - and the fact that this book introduces the world building - have more of a weight than in the third book. What sex there is is explosive and of course consenting. Ari makes fast friends of the families surrounding the wolf pack, but I simply liked the romance in the third book better.
