Para quem não sabe, Sandra Brown começou a sua carreira como autora de romances históricos, sob vários pseudónimos. Este foi um desses livros, publicado originalmente sob o pseudónimo Laura Jordan. Ganhei o livro no Goodreads e, para ser sincera estava um bocadinho receosa, porque a Sandra Brown é uma das minhas autoras favoritas. Mas afinal não tinha nada que recear...Hidden Fires é a história de um casamento de conveniência, entre Lauren, uma jovem órfã e desamparada e Jared, um rebelde playboy. Embora o casamento não agrade nem a um nem ao outro, porque este é um casamento com prazo de validade, ambos vêem nele uma saída. Para Lauren significará independência financeira e para Jared permitirá limpar a sua imagem junto dos parceiros de negócios. E como é costume nestas histórias, Jared acha que Lauren é uma oportunista e Lauren acha-o um bruto, mas a atracção entre ambos é palpável.Gostei da história. Lauren é uma heroína forte, determinada e corajosa, mas também vulnerável e apaixonada quando tem de ser. O Jared é o típico bad boy com um bom coração que, com a ajuda da heroína, volta ao bom caminho. As cenas em que implicam e discutem, mas ao mesmo tempo estão mortinhos para cair nos braços um do outro são muito divertidas. Gostei particularmente do momento em que a cabeça da Lauren praticamente explode com a constatação de que é uma lady na mesa e uma louca na cama ("mas, mas, não é suposto que as mulheres gostem assim tanto, pois não?"). Já o Jared tem ali um momento mais infeliz e que me deixou bastante chateada com ele (se tivesses contado à Lauren o plano, evitavas todo o sofrimento do final, não era menino Jared? E olha que a tua explicação a mim não me tinha convencido tão facilmente...), mas no geral é um bom protagonista.Embora prefira os romances com mistério que a autora escreve agora, acho que as editoras portuguesas podiam também apostar nos seus romances históricos. Eu comprava.

I must admit to being disappointed that both these titles were originally published in the 1980's! I doubt I would have entered the give away had I realised this. I have enough trouble keeping up with new titles. I was very disappointed in this mainly as stated above, never mind I will be more careful when I apply for give-aways in the future. Sandra Brown is not an author I am familiar with and I have never read any of her books prior to these two.I was very surprised to discover on Amazon.co.uk that this title is to be re published in the UK this coming September, having previously been republished in 2001. As first published in 1982 I guess the author is looking to attract another new generation of readers. Sandra Brown is an extremely popular and prolific author so no doubt this will do well yet again.The heroine Lauren takes a job in Texas as secretary to Olivia Lockett, however she ends up becoming her daughter in law. Jared the heir to the family estate becomes her husband because due to her feelings for him she accepts an offer to marry him in name only! Lauren is determined to fight to make their marriage as strong as her love. Can she turn this playboy into a loving husband, you will have to read it to find out.If you enjoy a light romantic read then this is probably for you.

ini ttg lauren, si ce yatim piatu yang terpaksa pergi ke daerah yang dia gak kenal karena terpaksa...di tempat tinggalnya dia dipaksa merit sama co jahat yang hampir memperkosa dia dan keluarga angkatnya lebih percaya sama pengakuan si co daripada pengakuan lauren...so berangkatlah dia ke texas buat bekerja sebagai sekretaris dari istri mr. ben lockett...org yang berbaik hati menawarkan dia pekerjaan .....sampainya di sana dia baru tau kalo ben locket udah meninggal.....jadilah dia ketemu sama Olivia locket, isytri nya ben yang jahat dan Jared locket, anak nya si Ben yang gahar ( tapi macho), judes (tapi sexy) yang menolak berbaik hati ke lauren karena dikira si lauren ini adalah simpenan nya si Ben....lauren yang penyless gak tau mesti ngapain akhir nya terjebak untuk pura2 merit sama Jared selama 1 tahun demi mempelancar ambisi olivia.....jared yang awalnya benci sama lauren akhirnya bertekuk lutrut jugam apalagi setelah dia tau lauren itu bukan simpenan bokapnyam masih gadis dan baik banget....tapi gak cukup sampe disitum si Olivia yang jahat nyususn rencana buat misahin lauren dan jared...lauren di culik sama kurt vandiver yang dari awal udah suka ama lauren....lauren ampir di perkaos sebelom akhirnya jared datang dan nolongin dia...apalagi baru ketauan kalo lauren lagi hamil...endingnya sangat sweet....walau di buku ini banyak juga yang mati....yang pasti olivia nya mati..syukurlah.....jahat banget sih tuh tante :(

this was my first time reading a book of Sandra brown and it caught me. All the emotions, which they´re triing to hide, but couldn´t. Lauren is a naive women from South Carolina, where she lives with the Prathers in a religios pastor family. When she meets Ben, an old frind of the Prathers, something changes. She leaves her family for Texas where she hopes building up a new life with Bens help. but nothing seems to be the way she´d expectet it.

5 Amazing StarsThis book was I had the greatest pleasure that this book was my very first read and my introduction to the romance books many years ago and to say that holds a very special place in my hart is not enough. I simple love this book and with every re read and they were many and will be many more to come i have the same feeling. Like it's the first time. Sandra Brown was the author who make me to fell in love with the romance books and i don't regret it. She is really in class by it self.I absolutely adore Jared and Lauren. As an individual, as a person and as a couple. For the sacrifices they made and how they fought for their marriage and how they relation ship blossom and it become something permanent. I never could've chosen a better book to the romance world and i highly recommend it. One of the best books i had the pleasure to get my hands on it.
