This book embodies beauty. Yes, Heroes and Monsters (an epic "postmodern" and poetic read) is a delicate and dramatic construction of true beauty--that which shows the authentic side to people, the depths of ones heart and mind even in the mess. It's a story, a very real story of the Christian journey and it's what's needed to make a difference in the lives of Generation X and the Millennial's. We desire, we need, to read books that don't sugar coat our experiences, our wrestle and our pain. We want to know we are not alone; Josh writes "we all want the possibility of not being alone" and he has done that successfully through exposing shame and receiving grace. Beauty, that is, at its best. Heroes and Monsters is an honest and unique memoir with fun illustrations sprinkled throughout the book. There is so much that is relatable for any person who struggles with reconciling the monster and the hero inside of them. I realize I just used a ton of words in those two sentences that are already used within the title not giving you a lot of new information about this book. Bottom line. I liked it, it kept my attention, I could relate. The author is entertaining, off-beat and at times profound. If the title piques your interest, read it. :)
