About book Here Come The Girl Scouts!: The Amazing All-True Story Of Juliette 'Daisy' Gordon Low And Her Great Adventure (2012)
I was once a Girl Scout but I knew nothing about how it came to be until I read this story. This is a very inspirational book for all, but mainly for women. I would love to have students do a report on someone who they found inspirational and use this book as a starting point. In the back of the book there is great back matter about the era in which this took place, the actual journey to getting it started, and even the Girl Scout Law. The illustrations are very nicely done with a simple pallet and a lot of white space, but it is the perfect balance of art and text. A picture book biography of the story of Juliette Gordon Low. This book reads almost like Magic SchoolBus ( but not nearly as busy1) and Jan Brett books; there are several options for reading. 1. Read the story all the way through2. Read the quotes ( on the wall in a picture frame, circled around a hat, etc..)3. Read the illustrationsNot only is this a great mentor text for bold, figurative and descriptive language, but the reader is able to become "friends" with Daisy through the wonderful story-telling of Shana Corey. End notes and other women of "gumption" as well as SC's purpose for writing is included. I loved it!!
