About book Her Game, His Rules (2012)

I have read two other books by Anna Katmore which I really liked. But this book earned a special place in my heart! It was wonderful and heartbreaking and I truly loved it!!It was a wonderful story about love and forgiveness. Jona wasn’t the easiest or most likeable character at the beginning but I could understand where she was coming from and I liked her voice. She’d had a hard life and I got that she was only trying to protect herself from getting hurt again. Still, she was pretty nasty to her mother and I would have thought that her aunt and uncle would reprimand her sometimes. But I liked the way she started to bond with her aunt and how flustered she got whenever her aunt was affectionate.Julian was a great character. He took everything Jona threw at him in stride. He was sweet but also a little mysterious. Even without the book title I would have realized what he was. The suspense came not from finding out what he was but what his story was and when and how Jona would come to the right conclusion.Their romance was sweet and romantic and full of little magical moments. I couldn’t stop reading to find out more about them and to see their relationship develop. I also have to say something about the writing because Anna Katmore is not a native english speaker but I couldn't for the life of me find any difference to the hundreds of books by American or British or Australian authors that I've read. Her writing is quite elaborate and elegant and I found that she used some words and metaphors that felt quite sophisticated. Of course I'm not the best judge of these things seeing as I'm not a native english speaker either. But I've been reading books in english for almost fifteen years now and I usually detect spelling errors or weird sentences and there was nothing of the sort here. I think she kept to British pronunciations (after all Jona grew up in London), but off the top of my head I can only recall one time that I noticed a distinct British expression when Jona said "boot" instead of "trunk". Anyway, the writing was fluent and engaging and I could see all the places, especially the house and the vineyard, clearly in my mind. I really loved that the story took place in southern France. The landscape of the Provence gave the story a special feeling.Towards the end it got really heartbreaking. I rarely cry reading a book. I might get misty-eyed and feel deeply moved but to actually cry the story really has to have that undefinable magic that tugs on my heartstrings. Well, this book had it. I really bawled my eyes out at the end. I wanted them to stay together soooooo badly! This was a wonderful, romantic and emotional book and I loved every moment of it! I was sad when I reached the last page as I would have loved to find out more about Julian and could have gone on reading about him and Jona. Loved it! I just finished this book. I liked it but I just felt it took me a while to get into it before I gave up on it but I finished and I wasn't disappointed it was a lengthy read so that's a plus.Jona and Julian. A lot of sexual chemistry but I was actually hoping Quinn would make a move on her or that she at least try to runaway I think there isn't a huge event to make me feel like I wonder this. I didn't have an emotional connection with the characters but it's a good read. Written well I could hear their accents and I seen the house and vineyard well
