I've enjoyed reading Karen McQuestion's work and always look forward to her next release. Her writing style is very streamlined--no fluff to distract from the pacing of the novel and the characters are easy to relate to. The dog's role in the story really made the experience for me. I'm a dog lover and could completely understand the dilemma of both parties. Who wouldn't want the joy of having an Anni in his or her life? I won't spoil it for readers, but the desire to know exactly how this would all play out kept me reading through to the end. Dan lost his wife over a year ago and is still very distraught. Though he has his daughter he feels more connected to his wife when speaking to his dog Anni. One faithful day anni is taking from him and his daughter and leaves them very sad. The heroine of the hook Andrea has just gotten over a bad divorce and is coping. The book goes back and forth between Dan and Andrea and how they keep missing each other that had me as a reader at the edge of my seat. Would have love to see more of the characters life together as they shared Anni. Very heartwarming novel.
