Unsurprisingly, these are a bit formulaic at this point. Characters are Heartmates, which one knows and one doesn't, at least one of them doesn't want a relationship of that magnitude. This had a point of difference in that neither character wanted a Heartmate bonding. Owens threw in a few things to keep it fresh, but other things I felt were glossed over a bit too easily. For all that the missing Hawthorn treasures were a key part of the plot, neither character had a very large role in searching for them until it provided a convenient solution for an argument. A feud is resolved between one page and the next, off-scene. It felt a bit like part of this book's purpose was to introduce new characters around the main pairing. I give it 3 stars because I cant actually say I enjoyed the book overmuch. I really wanted to read it because I liked Laev. I honestly wanted to see him having a happy ending. But this story seemed a little thrown together. Like the antognists were just added later to a love story. I understood the relationship between Cameilla and her relatives, but couldnt understanf why she didnt just move or something to get away from them. The ending seemed forced also, these men went to the extreme and in the end all her training didnt really help her. I also didnt like the person Laev became. Yes your wife was a fraud who lied, cheated and stole, but you learned the truth and she was dead for years and you still let it dictate how you accept your true Heartmate. But one of the things I did like was the fams, Mica and Brazos. I always thought the feline fams were over the top, narcisstic but these ones werent. They were cute, brave and funny. I even liked the scene with Zanth, who will always be my favorite, he is the strongest and most egotistical but he also seems to be single-handedly populating the fam community. I also likes Cal Marigold, I wont give spoilers but I thought it was a great addition. I liked the secondary characters, Jasmine, Glyssa, Tiana, and Garret, and look forward to seeing them in the future.
Do You like book Heart Search (2011)?
HeartMates with issues who are not really in want of HeartMates…that worked for me. *happy sigh*
