About book Hands Free Mama (Library Edition): A Guide To Putting Down The Phone, Burning The To-Do List, And Letting Go Of Perfection To Grasp What Really Matters! (2014)

While I really enjoyed the first several chapters of this book and found it encouraging and thought-provoking, it did get pretty repetitive rather quickly. The gospel was also missing and so much more of an emphasis on the authors experience of guilt and regret. There was a lot of weight put still on a mom's performance in getting her act together to stop the distractions and being present without first resting in the finished work of Christ on our behalf. I heard a lot of "You've got to do this, you gotta do that, in order for your life not to be wasted." There will not be lasting change without first knowing I am fully accepted and approved in Christ Jesus even in my struggles and shortcomings. Guilt is a weapon of the enemy to turn us in on ourselves instead of fixing our eyes on Jesus. Through his strength alone can we have any victory in saying no to the distractions. I cannot bring anything to the table, but simply to his cross I must cling...and in that I can rest in his promise that the good work he has begun in me will be completed according to his perfect plan for my life. My identity is not found in how my children, husband, or others perceive me, or how much time I spend playing with them each day. It must only be found in Jesus Christ's declaration that I am His beloved daughter in whom he is well pleased. He rejoices over you Mama. That being said, I would still recommend reading this book if you struggle with these areas, as long as you can season it with the salt of the gospel. I certainly came away with a few good reminders that are making a difference in how I spend each day. A good reminder to slow things down and enjoy these wonderfully frustrating times, early in your children's life. As much as I pull my hair out on a day-to-day, it helps to be reminded of the truly fleeting nature of this life stage. I will soon be missing when my children are bugging me to play with them. I am guilty of being "connected" more often that I would want to be, but at the high cost of missing many (what she calls) "sunset moments." As a result of being a little more present, I've already collected a number of these.

The concepts in this one were okay, but the writing wasn't that great.
