I found Scott's book, "Habit Stacking" to be useful. I consider that it is most useful as a supplement to Steven Guise's book, "Mini Habits".The author distinguishes between mini habits and habit stacking habits. Mini habits involve establishing habits that start with a required small task, but are meant to lead to something bigger. For example, when Steven Guise ("Mini Habits" author) wanted to establish a habit of working out, he was finally successful by requiring himself to do a mere one pushup a day. Once he had done that, it was easier to choose to do more on any given day. But by requiring something small, he established the habit of exercise, and it ultimately led to a habit of working out.Habit stacking habits are (says Scott, the author of this book,) different. They are small habits that are meant to make our life better in some way, things that would take 5 minutes or less each, and are not meant to grown into anything larger. The best way to establish these small habits is to put them together in a routine. The routine should be no more than 15-30 minutes total, and he suggests no more than 15 minutes when starting out. The habits should be things that are important to us.The value of the routine is that instead of having to remember to do each small thing individually, we do them together, and have only to do the routine at the chosen time. Also, if on a particular day it is difficult to do one of the items in the routine (say, one of the habits is to find an inspiring quote on the internet, and the internet is down), we still have done the other things in the routine and still maintain the habit of doing the routine.Scott also chooses several different areas, and lists a number of possible habit stacking habits in each area.These are helpful, and they provide some suggested ideas, though the habits aren't limited to those ideas. I found myself going through them, choosing things I would or might want to include at some point. Since I have the Kindle version, I highlighted those, so I could quickly refer back to them later.While I find the concepts in this book useful, I couldn't help but note that not all of the suggested habits are things that would take only 5 minutes. Also, some of the haibts mentioned in the later part of the book would be more useful as Mini Habits. A nice quick read with some good ideas for habit stacking. I really liked that he added in a lot of links to help support your new habits. I'm always wanting to create new habits and really love the idea of stacking them into a routine. A little bit different to other books I've read about this. Would recommend it if you want to create some new and helpful habits - a good book for coaches to recommend to clients that want to create new habits too
