I'm adding this to my Goodreads books, just so people don't think I totally love every book I read. This book is probably the worst book I've ever read. It was a gift from a former supervisor back in 1996. I started reading it and had to put it down. Over the next few years, I would pick it up, just remembering how ridiculous it was, and I'd read a few chapters or less before putting it back on the shelf. Finally, I forced myself to finish it so that it could become the measuring stick for awful books. (I usually only read/finish good books!) Having finished it, I honestly feel that the author never wanted to write it. It was pulled out of him simply because of the money. Forrest Gump was huge, and not writing a sequel probably seemed stupid. The best part of the book was the opening line. It was funny, but I had difficulty laughing. It's rare that happens to me. Like I can love a movie like "Big Trouble in Little China," so why do I hate the movie "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai," which is just as silly? As Forrest might say, "Sometimes silly rubs people the wrong way."Also, writing a sequel to a big hit can be rough. Michael Crichton's sequel to Jurassic Park seemed forced by money and uninspired too. And the sequel to Rosemary's Baby has a ton of hate on Goodreads, but I just finished it and loved it! So, you never know.
I loved it. I never read the first one, only saw the movie, it seems like the movie changed some stuff. Jenny in this book is not married to Forrest. But little Forrest indeed is his son.This book raises spirits, Forrest keeps on making mistakes, and keeps on standing up, finding new opportunities. And the story has a happy ending, what I usually like.The only thing about this book is you need to get used to the language. Like figure would be spelled figger, and business would be bidness, based on the actual Southern accent. "Would have thought" would be written as "would of thought" He uses only the third person singular for all verbs. And he makes all the irregular verbs regular, which kinda makes sense. Like I runned to school. People could not understand him though. I loved the language, and the meaning behind. Winston Groom apparently did not like the fact that his first novel was made into a movie, so in this book, he has a way to keep this book from being made into Gump II. No wonder, I was wondering why there is no Gump II knowing the existence of the book.But I promise you if you can get through the language barrier, it is more worthwhile to read the book than see the movie, although I have to say it was the movie that gave me the attention of this whole Forrest Gump Alabama thing.

I like the first book better. The second book seem like it was nothing but a string of getting in trouble where there was varying degrees of success. It just was kind of hokey in the middle, but it really finished up with a great ending. I can't say that it wasn't full of adventure. It definitely had adventure and funny points to it. So overall, I really enjoyed this book. Again, there is the language factor. So for those of you who do not like reading books with a lot of colorful language, I might consider skipping this one. In fact, I don't usually read a lot of strong language books. However, I really wanted to finish this one out to see where it would end up. While there was a little bit of language in the movie, forest Gump, there is twice to three times as much in the book.

I had not read the first book but have seen the movie. Knowing how the movie was I knew this book would be the same way and I enjoyed it because I knew how the book was going to go. I read a lot of bad reviews for this book; however, if you know what kind of book you are getting into, they shouldn't have so many negative comments, they should have known better. It was a light book full of the many nuisances of Forrest Gump. One annoying thing I didn't like was that Forrest kept getting into these situations where it would start out really successful for him and then it would go bad and after so many of these incidents, it gets repetitive.

Let me say this: this is a bloody excellent book. I haven't read "Forrest Gump" or seen the movie, but I just fell in love with the sequel.Gump is now penniless, his love Jenny is gone, and now he got to look after Little Forrest, his son. He went in and out of jail. His life just couldn't get anymore unstable. However,it's a total comic odessy in the most simplified view.
