Poems reflecting the inner thoughts of famous fairy tale characters. I was thinking it would be fun to read these aloud to my students without giving them the name of the poem and see if they can use the context clues to figure out which fairy tale character is speaking. The illustrations are quite creepy when they need to be, which will add to the appeal of this book to students. A definite purchase for the library. Grumbles from the Forest is truly a book of fairy tales with a twist. It retells fifteen classic fairy tales. But the book's thirty poems (two for each fairy tale) are told from a very different perspective than the originals. Three Billy Goats Gruff's first retelling describes the troll's thoughts on his favorite method of cooking goat. The second details the troll's lament after he gets knocked into the river by the third billy goat.I like reading and writing retellings of classic fairy tales, and I enjoyed every one of these poems.
