I'm between a 3 and 4 stars on this one. It's very poetic and very symbolic. It's about finding oneself, dealing with loss, finding hope and the will to go on. I likes how her tattoos changed color as she came back to herself. I liked the second part more than the first. I liked how everyone had a story yet you can't judge if you don't know how the story ends. I also liked all the descriptions from different people of the "witches" from monsters to having gills, etc yet they all just turned out to be women with a story. I loved all the chapter beginnings, how she thought one thing to only find another thing to be true. I highlighted quite a few lines and am sure I will read then over again. 3.5 stars. I go back and forth with Alice Hoffman's books. This book is two novellas in one: Green Angel (which I read a few years ago) and Green Witch. The premise is good, the inner dialogue is repetitive and makes Green sound unintelligent and naive (two traits she is clearly not), but there are too many unanswered questions. Hoffman tends, for me, to gloss over things too quickly and I think that keeps some of the characters from developing. Diamond is the main example in both stories.

It's more like 3 short stories rolled into one sort-of book. Very quick read. I wasn't impressed.
