About book Google時代一定要會的整理術 (2010)

I was interested in this book because I'd read somewhere Douglas Merrill has dyslexia and started out working out ways at school to organise and study to work around his difficulties with traditional learning. My youngest is showing difficulties with reading and staying organised and as I'm have dyscalculia I thought this book was worthwhile for any tips I could pick up. In all honestly, there wasn't much I didn't already know from previous jobs I've had over the years. The book also is already becoming defunct even though only written in 2010...Merrill recommends Apple MobileMe (no longer in existence) and talks about the limitations of Google Docs not being a replacement for any of the Microsoft Office products....when now we use Google Docs for all the family's needs and for the kids essays/spreadsheets/'power points' etc.BUT I'm not dissing this book. If you don't use gmail and it's search, Google Docs, pdfs of official docs saved to the Cloud and emailed to those who need them, search for home computer files rather than wasting time creating a multitude of folders, setting out goals before diving into search the internet....then read this book. It will have vital ideas how to use technology that's available to make your life easier.PLUS the book reminded me about stepping back every so often to ensure vital information is available to the people who need it in emergencies, before the unexpected happens....and I'm off to update/sort that now. I actually enjoyed reading this book quite a bit. Merrill's casual writing style coupled with organizational challenges in his life make this a very warm and forgiving book to read. He describes how certain tools can be used for certain organizational needs. The main tenet that struck to me was his insistence on NOT maintaining an empty inbox but to search for mail that we needed by placing tags. He offers about 12 organizing principles which challenge the usual assumptions of organization. Having served as the Chief Information Officer at Google, Inc. it is expected that he would endorse mostly Google products but with good reason. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking to use the internet to help organize their life.

Couldn't get into this. Maybe because I work in technology ... it all seems so obvious.
