Do You like book Girls' Night In (2004)?
I am not a huge fan of short story collections but I decided to pick up `GIRLS NIGHT IN' because some of the stories were penned by some of my favorite authors in the chick-lit genre and some by authors that I have never read but wanted to. Unfortunately, I cannot say that I was impressed by this collection, out of the twenty-one stories I can honestly only say that I liked seven, the rest were either mediocre, left something to be desired, or were just bad. However, on a positive note, out of the seven stories that I did like five of the authors were ones whose books I've never read. Therefore, I did accomplish the goal of discovering new authors to put into my rotation. My seven favorites, in no particular order, were:`THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE' by Marian Keys`ACTING STRANGELY' by Chris Manby`KNOW IT ALL' by Sarah Mylnowski`CAT LADY' by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez`DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM' by Adele Lang`PARTY PLANNER' by Meg Cabbot`TRAVELING LIGHT' by Carole MatthewsSo while I cannot say that I particularly enjoyed this book in its entirety, I do have the pleasure of walking away excited to read more from the seven aforementioned authors.

A collection of short stories from the best of the chick lit genre. If you read any chick lit, I would say this is worth picking up. I liked taking a break every little bit to read a short story that I could get into quick and then come to the conclusion in just a few short pages. I think I should do this more often, adds variety to my reading.Although there were some stories that I wished were full blown novels, there were some that I was glad would be ending quickly. Without going and dissecting each story, I would say that the majority were at least a little enjoyable.Pick this one up at your local library or used book store, but you may not keep it around for long.

I picked up this book for two reasons: One, I couldn't wait to get my hands on anything else featuring author Sophie Kinsella, and two, it gave me a chance to get acquainted with some more of chick-lit's greatest writers. On a whole, GIRL'S NIGHT IN was an average read. Suffice it to say, the first story, Party Planner written by Meg Cabot had to be my favorite. It was a great introduction, and really had me psyched for what followed. But it seemed from there, many of the stories became deficient in edge and character. There were of course the authors we all know and love that didn't disappoint, such as Lynda Curnyn and Marien Keyes. I will also be on the lookout for more from Meg Cabot, Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, Sarah Mlynowski and especially Adele Lang, who had me in stitches with Don't You Know Who I Am?Overall I think that there will be something in here for everyone to enjoy. It's definitely a good book to pick up for a day at the beach.
