Always great to immerse myself back in the Liaden UniverseTM, I've spent so much time imagining Theo's meeting with the larger Koval clan that it was extremely rewarding to see it finally happen on paper. And no disappointment here. Still it doesn't quite feel like Theo world and the larger Koval world has merge so much as begun to intercept. If this was done intentionally it was masterly done with the Waitley parts still feeling like a Waitley book and Val Con's section feeling like a Korval book. Still one hopes the worlds continue to merge. (I even now have hope that Jethri will show up, though I don't have clarity on where he falls chronically) I would not recommend starting the series with this book. though the beginning of either branch should be enough to get you up to speed quickly. I really like Lee and Miller's Liaden books, and this one was a worthy addition to the series and a great deal of fun, even if Theo Waitley is likely to never be my favorite character in the series -- too much excellent competition. If this were just a Theo Waitley story (like Saltation, say), I'd probably give it three stars. But I enjoyed the book most for bringing together half a dozen different story lines from several books into something really new. Of course, this same feature means that the book will not be particularly accessible to those new to the series -- if you're interested in the Liaden books, this is not the place to start.
Do You like book Ghost Ship (Theo Waitley, #3) (2011)?
Another home run by Lee and Miller. I love the Liaden books.
