This was a wonderful read in the series. Though it could work as a stand alone as with her other books I feel the reader would enjoy it more if they were to have read the first two in the series. What can I say about the Duke of Wycliff? A mysterious rogue, handsome, rugged, wickedly tattooed and defiant of all things respectable. Eliza is not the typical heroine, she is smart and willing to do what she must to get her story. There's steamy seduction yet the writer does not rely on sex to carry one scene to the next. Instead she has crafted a well written story with twist and turns, well developed characters and a time era that comes to life. Well done Ms. Rodale and I look forward to the rest of your series. My first from the Writing Girls series and from Maya Rodale.I have to say I didn't hate the book, nor did I thoroughly enjoy it. Interesting storyline - Sebastian, newly the Duke of Wycliff, returns home after years abroad studying exotic locales (like Tahiti) and learning about foreign cultures and fauna/flora. Comes back with an air of mystery that the ton can't get enough of so intrepid Writing Girl Eliza Fielding takes a job as a housemaid to try and ferret out information to print in the London Weekly.I found myself impatient to get to the end, not just because I wanted to find out what was going on but I was a little bored at how slowly the story progressed. I ended up skimming most of it until the final 2-3 chapters of the book. I'm not sure if that's just this one particular book or the entire series, however, I would like to try another of Ms. Rodale's books.
