Oh this was so much fun to read. Really different and engrossing, a really freshly presented story steeped in an undercurrent of romance. Told from the perspective ::spoiler:: of a "matchmaking" cat Sam, the young man who finds him- Emerson- and the girl on which Emerson has had a crush for years, Lola. Emerson is a guitar-making genius, Lola a violinist starting her own musical career after years of gigging with her locally-renown guitarist Dad. It takes place over a finite timeline with a short linear span, so it moves along quickly. Sam's perspective is refreshing-he's a wise cat with amazing intuition. His silent point-of-view is really spot on, and while it adds levity, the story is so well created that it has *just* the right amount of tension and a wee bit of drama. Unique presentation, lively characters. The kids - and the cat - are three old souls trying to find their way to one another and create something lasting. I was tumbling over myself trying to read fast enough! Highly recommend. What an interesting novella! Told from 3 points of view which is definitely unique (!) this lovely piece of romantic fiction draws the reader in from the beginning and unfolds delightfully to the finish! This is the story of Lola, Emerson and Sam the cat. Sam finds a new owner in Emerson and is determined to help him when he meets the girl of his dreams, Lola. Sam has the ability to plant thoughts in others minds and his initial work helps Lola and Emerson come together. But when Sam isn't there, can Lola and Emerson find their own way?There was so much to enjoy about this story. Obviously creating part of the story from the cat's point of view is bound to be entertaining and this is indeed the case. Lola is a feisty, and fun girl and attracted to Emerson despite his apparent somewhat schizophrenic behavior (on account of Sam's ability to help Emerson out in his painful shyness). Emerson is a nice guy, shy, but with Sam's help starts to develop self confidence and believe that he could really be the one for Lola. There are some scenes in the book that were truly delightful (no spoilers) and at the end of the day, the story was a quick read, entertaining, quirky, funny and just plain unique. 4 stars!
