Liparulo is obviously on a roll. Written as one story that’s been broken up into several different books, Dreamhouse Kings is an amazing adventure that seems to climax again and again but the ride hasn’t even come close to an ending yet. At this point in the story, I wish that there was a little more emphasis on trust in God. I know it’s a fantasy but the King family has been raised as strong believers. There’s more room for insertion of a little faith in some of these situations without being overwhelming or heavy handed. I also (as a mom) keep thinking ahead to who is going to help the kids and how I’d feel if my kids were on their own. Once again it adds another layer of richness while reading the books. It’s something I’m sure that the intended audience (young adult) wouldn’t recognize but as an adult with experience in writing, I can appreciate it deeply. Liparulo has crafted the story to address all of these concerns and fears while also maintaining a fast paced (hold on tight!) storyline that at times, barely gives you a chance to catch your breath before you move on to the next chapter. His cliffhangers alone are nearly breathtaking enough to be considered evil. If it weren’t for the reassuring “NOT the end” that is placed at the end of each book, I could get very annoyed. As it is, for some reason, books four and five didn’t make it to me in the same shipment that 1-3 and 6 did, so now I’m stuck tapping my fingers and waiting to see what happens in the next segment of the adventure. My poor mail carrier will probably need to seek counseling after experiencing me in ‘wait’ mode. Should I tell him he has Liparulo to thank for this?Review copy provided by Thomas Nelson. In this instalment of the series we see Mr. King taken to jail, Jesse and Keal make it to the house, Toria makes her first portal jump, and we see a little more into Taksidian’s story. The person they find in the civil war is not someone they expected to find.I’m enjoying the development of the story in this book. We finally start to see information and events come together. Once again, however, Liparulo leaves the reader on a cliffhanger and I hate those with a passion. Fortunately, I know my public library owns this series (except for the second one – definitely read books 1 and 2 together).
Do You like book Gatekeepers (2009)?
I love this series. It was a great fast-paced read and it was a very interesting read.
