This book is about a Hindu God whose head is an elephant’s and has a very large appetite for sweets, especially the Hindu dessert laddoo. Ganesha learns of a new type of laddoo and want to try it, but her friend Mr. Mouse interrupts and tells Ganesha it is in fact a jawbreaker and it will break her tusk. Ignoring Mr. Mouse Ganesha eats it anyway breaking one of her tusk. This book captures the Indian culture through both the text of the story and the artwork. The author uses Indian style artwork to illustrate the vibrancy and richness of the Indian culture. Children who read this book will also learn a little bit of a different language, such as the word “laddoo” and “Mahabharata.” Although this book does give a gist of Hindu mythology it doesn’t tell the real mythological story of Ganesha, it only takes part of it and includes it in the story, but the overall product is very interesting and fun to read.Patel, S., & Haynes, E.
